Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is illegal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, contains 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that features many luxuries aside from the casino, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
