Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is banned. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that features a number of comforts aside from the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
