Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that highlights many conveniences on top of the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
