Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, contains 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
