Casinos in Mozambique
The relative insufficiency in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in one sense more or less questionable, in one way or another.
In years gone by, the region was a site where lots of South Africans would go to to detach themselves from the extremely restrictive rules on gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. Therefore, you might expect a aura of a thriving sector to cater to that tourist trade.
Still, perhaps it is not particularly a surprise. The country is truly the most destitute world wide, having gone through a frightening civil war (followed by destructive floods) from which it is still, very slowly, coming around. This may make a place much less of a travel prospect, although there is at this moment a thriving setting along a number of the country’s breathtaking beaches.
It is added to that valid that regionally at the very least, Mozambique’s casinos have had to cross with casinos in the lately liberalized South Africa, which is inclusive of the recognized Sun City founded by the Kerzner family corporation.
Here is a list of Mozambique’s casinos:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are 78 slot machines and video poker games, five tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, also 1 poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are 40 slot machines, American roulette, and also two tables for poker as well as punto banco.
It is thought that over time the full tourism sector in Mozambique will flourish adequately. While the local languages are, naturally, African, there is as well the portion of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the current and expanding emergence of English, both from South Africa and as part of the worldwide phenomenon. The country is considerably cheap (clearly, as it is so poor) and as above, has some of the most outstanding beaches world wide, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the types of features that make tourism authorities drool, and as the country climbs out of its prevailing slump, it is likely that not only will tourism expand, but that the list of casinos in Mozambique will grow longer for sure.
While the country is skeptical to ever reclaim its character as a place for partying South Africans, as there are now other options closer to home for them to indulge in, the growth of a long distance tourism industry is being outlined. This would be to cater to Europeans looking for winter sun, as a release from the dreariness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. In addition, of course, the finest prawns (shrimp) over the world derive from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
